I was listening to this week’s installment of This American Life this morning, and I learned that Jerry Springer used to be a politician, a good one. He was pretty idealistic and was even compared to Kennedy and Clinton! Eventuallly he ran for governor, lost, then worked for tv as an anchor for years, before getting his own show. That even started out idealistically (on the first shows, he talked about homelessness, had Jesse James – went the serious route) until became clear that sensational shows scored better.
Who would’ve thought? I do wonder if he’s as happy now doing trash tv as he was being mayor.
