Buongiorno Principessa!

La Vita e Bella has to be the most beautiful, amazing, and heartbreaking movie in the world. It’s on Dutch television right now, because of Remembrance Day. I’ve seen it twice before, but had to watch it again. We’re at the really sad part at the end and I barely dare to watch…but I will. I might cry though.

  1. I never saw the movie in full, only in bits, but anyone who sees the end where that little boy sits on the tank spotting his mother and does not cry at least a little… they must be made of brick.
I spent 3 evenings watching Wim Wenders movies so I’m avoiding movies today.😉

    • You have to watch the entire thing! Seeing while you know the ending only makes it more beautiful, it gives the rest such a ‘lading’! But I get you avoiding movies🙂 I’m avoiding books cause I’m trying to write a ten page paper on one book (Disgrace by JM Coetzee). After all that literary stuff, I just need to read some quick fantasy or chick lit…

  4. I saw that movie for the first time last year and loved it. It’s so different from most movies about that time period. I should watch it again some time.

I love that movie. It’s so beautiful and different from other movies about the war…I watched Schindler’s List the other day with Thomas (he hadn’t seen it before) and I cried…it’s such a beautiful movie, just like La Vita e Bella…Days like remembrance day will put things in perspective for me again…which is good once in a while.

      • I saw Schindler’s List in the cinema and although I’ve seen it once or twice on tv since, it’s not half as impressive on the small screen. In general I’ve been more interested in non-Hollywood movies about the war these past few years. La Vita è Bella is one of those movies, as are Downfall (Der Untergang) and Das Boot. The latter I must have watched at least 30 times now but the former I only dared to watch once in full. Which says a lot, I think.
