J.M. Coetzee

I had this book on my shelves for a while before I actually read it (it was required reading for one of my classes). I wasn’t looking forward to it, but I’m glad I actually did take the time to read it! It was so wonderful I’ve been recommending it to people. I’m not really sure what made it so wonderful, but Coetzee really has a way with words, and he managed to powerfully display the tensions between black and white in South Africa. It really came alive for me.

Coetzee won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2003 and the book itself won the Booker Prize in 1999 – if that’s not reason enough to read it, I don’t know what is!
