cardboard dreams

The last group I joined on Facebook was titled "I Picked a Major I Like, and One Day I Will Probably Be Living In a Box". There’s something very true about that statement: American Studies is not exactly the most relevant area of study one could think of. I don’t think it was exactly a conscious choice to pick something I loved rather than pick something people will pay you to do, but over the years that decision has grown on me. Career isn’t that important to me. Happiness is. I don’t see myself working five days a week just to advance on the career ladder. I do see myself working hard en succeeding – but that success is probably not going to be of the monetary kind. Unless, of course, I manage to write that bestseller and sell millions of copies. I’ll buy myself one heck of a box then.
