things I learned while making soup for 50 people yesterday

  • it takes forever to cut up 32 bell peppers.
  • never touch your face, or, God forbid, rub your eyes after you’ve cleaned and cut up 6 fresh chili peppers.
  • pay attention when you use a blender or the top is liable to come off and the soup be sprayed all over the kitchen. Also, (you may already know this) hot soup burns.
  • if you call your boyfriend in tears, he is likely to only hear the words “hot soup”, “spilled”, and “burned”. Then he is likely to rush over fearing a trip to the ER when in fact you were just crying because the soup explosion startled and/or scared you, the kitchen is a mess, and your arms hurt where the soup splashed and burned them.
  • it takes about half an hour to clean off pretty much every kitchen surface.
  • to leave the soup making to other people.

    tip for the chili peppers:
    * rub your fingers with oil, or
    * use plastic gloves
    Good luck with the other preparations, am looking forward to taste everything πŸ™‚

        In case it was not clear yet, use the oil before you start cutting. The toothpaste probably works better when cutting is finished, although I can imagine that it will also hurt when rubbing your eye πŸ˜‰

          I figured the oil worked kind of the same way that flour does before you start kneading dough (actually, the only similarity may be that you use it beforehand, but it sounded logical when I thought of it). But thanks for the clarification πŸ˜‰

    washing it with toothpaste should help as well…have no idea where I heard that though, lol πŸ™‚

    sorry to hear that your soupmaking was such a drama. Luckily you have an awesome boyfriend who comes to the rescue!!! πŸ™‚

      the soup actually turned out pretty well. Maybe I can make it for our bookclub meeting..I’ll just make sure to let someone else handle the blender πŸ˜‰
